[Interview] Down with Half Gramme of Soma

Welcome to Downtuned
Tell us a few words about the group, when and where did you get started? How did you meet?
We’ve been active since the beginning of 2011. We actually met through ads in musicians’ forums and that’s how our first line-up took shape. We released our self titled debut in early 2013. Since then a few line-up changes occurred, in fact everyone but the two guitarists has been replaced. With this new line-up, which has been together for a year now, we toured around Greece for the first time. We now feel there’s a stronger connection between us both musically and in terms of communication.

Which are your musical influences?
Rock and metal music, slow, fast, heavy, atmospheric, experimental, anything we like to listen, the music that’s inside our heads and struggles to come out.

What’s your lyrics about? What catches your interest?
Everyday situations, social issues, personal thoughts and feelings.

Is the communication with the crowd something that you care about, in all levels, or do you do music for yourselves?
We definitely think of ourselves in the first place, it’s something we’ve got to get out of our system anyway. We believe that’s a natural way of thinking for an underground band.
On the other hand we want to communicate our music with the fans in the best way possible and we hope to get better at it in the near future.

Do you feel like you’re a part of a particular “scene” in which you would like to join and contribute or you are indifferent about it?
We definitely feel we’re a part of the greater heavy music scene of Greece not that much due to musical similarities (there’s so much variety and great bands in every genre anyway) but more in terms of personal connection.
There’s mutual support, help and respect. We feel there’s a good thing going and we’re glad to be a part of it.

How do you imagine that the band will be in ten years from now?
That’s a tough one. We can’t really tell, the sure thing is that the band’s gonna stick around.

Which famous artist you would like to do a guest to a record of yours and why?
Dave Wyndorf for he’s the Master of Light!

What plans do you have for the near future?
In autumn 2014 we plan to release our new EP, entitled “Marche au Noir”, which is in post production right now. Then we hope to get out there again and tour as soon as possible.

We wish you good luck to whatever you’re doing, the epilogue is yours.
Thank you very much for the interview, we hope to meet you at some gig soon!Have a nice summer to all of you!
