[Interview] Down with Anal Veritas

Welcome to Downtuned
Tell us a few words about the group, when and where did you get started?
How did you meet?
The band started back in 2002 when Nikos (bass) and Paris (drums) started jamming at the famous "Sub Studios" late 2003 Sotiris (guitars) and Tassos (guitars) joined the band and the band the four of us name the baby band Anal Veritas after some months Thannasis joined the band as the vocalist and that’s the original line up till now Nikos Sotiris and Tassos were friends from 1995 when they were played at bands of that era like κιτρινα φυλλα, desperate cry am nepenthe with lots of projects, jams and drinks 2003 was the time to join forces with Paris and Thannasis who they were Nikos friends and met them to Sotiris and Tassos.

Which are your musical influences?
We don’t have a specific influence its a mix from bands like Metallica, Slayer, Isis, Deftones, Pantera, punk and hardcore scene also the industrial scene like Ministry, White Zombie, Rob Zombie and many many more.

What’s your lyrics about? What catches your interest?
Lyrics are about religion, politics also inner fears of man and feelings generally our interest is around humanity, realism fear and feelings some sentimental some violence moments are in Anal Veritas lyrics.

Is the communication with the crowd something that you care about, in all levels, or do you do music for yourselves?
Yes it is and its very important too we have some bad critics in our history about how much we make fun with our crowd and how much we speak with our audience from the reporters but you know that’s the underground.

Do you feel like you’re a part of a particular “scene” in which you would like to join and contribute or you are indifferent about it?
We are a part of the Athenian underground scene we hope that we have contributed till now and that we’ll continue to do it.

How do you imagine that the band will be in ten years from now?
We’ll have more beards maybe white and bigger bellies.

Which famous artist you would like to do a guest to a record of yours and why?
Hmmm, we can’t answer "one" but a few like James Hetfield of 86-89 vocals i think Thannasis would wanted Anselmo and for sure Aaron Turner from Isis and Scot Kelly from Neurosis.

What plans do you have for the near future?
We are ready to write our second album that we hope to release it in early 2015 and do some gigs outside Athens and maybe Greece.

We wish you good luck to whatever you’re doing, the epilogue is yours.
Thank you for the support all these years we won’t disappoint as long as you support the underground scene as you do (for the fans).
