[Review] Aqua Nebula Oscillator - Third

The legend says that many years ago, Hawkind and MC5 joined a ritual somewhere in the sacred forests of South America. Some time during the ritual and under the guidance of acid's and speed's spirits, a mysterious creature was born. They called it Aqua Nebula Oscillator and decided to keep it hidden from the eyes of the world. So it found shelter in underground Paris. The creature was bred by darkness and under its holy spirits's teachings evolved to something superior.

For years it was wandering in Paris' catacombs, waiting for the right time to rise to the surface. In 2000 it was mature and wise enough to make its appearance but the ancient ones advised it to wait a few years more. It was in 2008 when it abandoned the underworld and carrying its first gospel, saw sunlight for the very first time. Aqua Nebula Oscillator started roaming in the urban desert, preaching the holy psychedelia. But even after its second gospel, only a few chosen ones discovered the power of its teachings.

But this year, "Third" was brought to life, making more and more people unfurl Aqua Nebula Oscillator's thread. "Third" is probably their finest record until now. A kraut-Stooges driven album where space rock is entangled with punk and ornamented with lo-fi, raw psychedelia. Aqua Nebula Oscillator is a versatile band and I find it very hard to put them in forms. From the dirty garage punk of "Lucifer" to "Turn On" acid rocknrolla and from the dark blues-punk of "Dead Soul" to the esoteric floydian atmosphere of "Incandescence", Aqua Nebula Oscillator managed to keep their music to high levels and create their own distinctive sound by extending their own boundaries.

"Third" has this raw, jam feeling and it's like you're having the band perform live in front of you. I always loved these guys and they just gave me one more reason to justify my respect for them. In case you haven't checked them before, I believe now is the right time to do it. If bands like Mugstar, Farflung, Lumerians, The Heads, Eternal Trapesty ring you any bells then "Third" is something you're going to enjoy for a long time... Let Aqua Nebula Oscillator guide you through the acid labyrinth of their mystic world...
